Our Platform at a Glance
Throwing money at problems is not a long term solution
The Alberta Party believes that every sector of governance has a relationship and impact on other sectors. For example, the issue of homelessness is not just about affordability. Homelessness impacts our healthcare system as well as our justice system. Addressing homelessness in an evidence based way will not only ease the costs of policing, criminal justice and healthcare but will augment the work force and help drive the economy. We believe that it is paramount to view every policy through the lens of its effect on other areas of our social system.
We engaged all Albertans through Citizen-Lab to their input and created our platform from that engagement. Essentially, our platform was written by Albertans, for Albertans. Here is what we got back!
Improving education
The Alberta Party is committed to a properly funded public education system. We will first put a freeze on all funding to Private and Charter Schools. We will ensure class sizes adhere to the recommendations given to the current government and implement Preventative Wellness Programs for students and teachers. The Alberta Party understands that early diagnosis and treatment are essential success as an adult. We are committed to identifying learning challenges in pre-school children and properly fund the assistance required. In collaboration with stakeholders, including teachers and students, create a non-partisan curriculum which uses best practices. The Alberta Party will develop a province wide, priority based infrastructure plan in consultation with stakeholders including Municipalities.
Economy
Alberta’s economic future will be brighter than its past. The Alberta Party will:• Commit to excellence in Agriculture• Establish an Agriculture Innovations fund for research and seed funding• Incentivize investments in processing, and other secondary ag industries• Invest in crop and animal sciences with industry partners to support innovation in yields, irrigation, land management practises, climate resistance and technology• Create education and training opportunities for sustainable workforce• Incentivize local food production• Collaborate with farmers and ranchers to review and modernise the Agriculture FinancialService Corporation and Crop Insurance Plan
Environment
A 'WATER FIRST' perspective will be applied to all new projects. There will be no reclaimation handouts. The polluters will fulfill their legal obligations to clean up their own mess.
Affordability
We believe that everyone in Alberta deserves a home and that everyone deserves the ability to earn a living wage. The Alberta Party will tackle both of these issues with a robust ten year plan that includes affordable housing and a Unified Income Support Program. and Living Wage Supports We will lower income taxes for minimum wage workers and make property taxes deductable from income. The Alberta Party will create a Cost of Living Support program for post-secondary students.
Better healthcare
The Alberta Public Health System requires overall reform. The Alberta Party will increase enrolment two-fold in all areas where we require healthcare providers by offering incentives regarding funding, loan interest and in some cases loan forgiveness. These initiatives translate into retention of the professionals in rural settings where they are needed the most. Having the right providers in emergency rooms will free up doctors to see patience who need a doctor. Therapists and nurse practitioners should be utilized where possible thus reducing wait times and cost simultaneously. All families will also have a family physician and primary health care team where prevention would be the focus.
Sustainable Energy
The Alberta Party is committed to the provinces evolution toward an energy province. Alberta is uniquely situation in this regard. We will create a critical mineral resource “life cycle” development and "un" development strategy including extracting lithium from the downhole fluids within old/exhausted oil and gas well bores, Blue Hydrogen production from Oil and Gas technology, Electricity (wind, solar and thermal, coupled to CCUS) and Emerging technologies. We will repatriate the carbon tax and have an Alberta focussed distribution toward green initiatives. A 'WATER FIRST' PERSPECTIVE WILL BE APPLIED TO ALL NEW PROJECTS.
