Our strategy is to create a better way forward. Below are highlights from our 5 pillars as created from our provincewide engagement on Citizen-Lab. Visit our website for full details.
Pillar 1
Affordability
I believe that everyone in Alberta deserves a home and that everyone deserves the ability to earn a living wage. I hope to tackle both of these issues with a robust ten year plan that includes affordable housing and a Unified Income Support Program. and Living Wage Supports I would like to see lower income taxes for minimum wage workers and make property taxes deductable from income and a Cost of Living Support program for post-secondary students.
Pillar 2
Healthcare
The Alberta Public Health System requires overall reform. The Alberta Party will increase enrolment two-fold in all areas where we require healthcare providers by offering incentives regarding funding, loan interest and in some cases loan forgiveness. These initiatives translate into retention of the professionals in rural settings where they are needed the most. Having the right providers in emergency rooms will free up doctors to see patients who need a doctor. Therapists and nurse practitioners should be utilized where possible thus reducing wait times and cost simultaneously. All families will also have a family physician and primary health care team where prevention would be the focus.
Pillar 3
Education
The Alberta Party is committed to a properly funded public education system. We will first put a freeze on all funding to Private and Charter Schools. We will ensure class sizes adhere to the recommendations given to the current government and implement Preventative Wellness Programs for students and teachers. The Alberta Party understands that early diagnosis and treatment are essential success as an adult. We are committed to identifying learning challenges in pre-school children and properly fund the assistance required. In collaboration with stakeholders, including teachers and students, create a non-partisan curriculum which uses best practices. The Alberta Party will develop a province wide, priority based infrastructure plan in consultation with stakeholders including Municipalities.
Pillar 4
Economy - including: Energy, Environment and Climate
The Alberta Party is committed to the provinces evolution toward an energy province. Alberta is uniquely situation in this regard. We will create a critical mineral resource “life cycle” development and "un" development strategy including extracting lithium from the downhole fluids within old/exhausted oil and gas well bores, Blue Hydrogen production from Oil and Gas technology, Electricity (wind, solar and thermal, coupled to CCUS) and Emerging technologies. We will repatriate the carbon tax and have an Alberta focussed distribution toward green initiatives. A 'water first' perspective will be applied to all new projects. There will be no reclamation handouts. The polluter will fulfill their legal obligations.
Pillar 5
Good Government & Citizenship
The Alberta Party is committed to Transparency, Accounability and the Rule of Law. We will introduce a Code of Conduct for MLAs, something has has been required for a very long time. Alberta Party MLAs will reply to all inquiries within 14 days. They will host a minimum of four constituency Town Halls each year. No longer will your representative be absent for their entire tenure. The Alberta Party will initiate a full review and reform of MLA's interaction with lobbyists. We will commit to a transparent, priority based budget process. We will create a Citizen's Assembly who will be tasked with exploring election reform including proportional representation.
